Inaugural Meeting of the VW Beetle Owners’ Club at the Residence of Mr.Wimal Nugegodage. Ten Beetle owners attend the meeting and a Committee of management is formed. Mr.J Weerasuriya Appointed Founder President and Mr.Wimal Nugegoda appointed Founder Secretary of the Club.

26 April 1997
First ever “Drive” organized by the Club from no.15 Alfred Place, Colombo 3 (Residence of Mr.Ruwan Punchihewa) to Danduwa, Parliament Road, Kotte.The Drive was flagged off by His Excellency Mr.Schmidt, Ambassador of Germany. 80 Beetles participate at this event.

Special General Meeting organized at the Library Services Auditorium, Colombo 7, Guest Speaker Mr. Mana Jayawardena speaks of the history of the VW Beetle as well as technical points to the members.

With the Size 15” tyre by Kelani Tyres being out of production, the Club confirms and orders of 100Tyres, which brings back the production of the size 15” Tyre by Kelani Tyres Ltd.

First Ever “Speed” Event organized by the Club, incorporated with the Annual “Pride of Ownership” Drive. The Drive was from the Hilton- Colombo to the Katukurunda Air Base, Kalutara to carry out “Beetle Sprint”. Drive proceeded to Hotel Kani Lanka for Fellowship Lunch and awards ceremony. Complimentary Breakfast to participants with the kind courtesy of the Hilton Colombo. VW Keytags manufactured in Germany given to the participants of the event.

The 8th Annual "Pride of Ownership" Drive was held from Colombo to Dampe Village Resort, Madapatha. The Start from the Hilton Colombo and flagged of by Ms.Gigi De Silva - Public Relations Manager of the Hilton Colombo. Over sixty Beetles partcipate at this event.

10th "Pride of Ownership" Drive from Hilton-Colombo to Taj Airport Garden Hotel, Katunayake. Mr.Jerome Auvity, General Manager of the Hilton Colombo is given a guard of honor by the members alongside their Bugs. Special car related fun event organised at the venue. 56 Beetles partcipate at the Drive.

13th Annual General Meeting held at the Ceylon Hotel School Auditorium, Colombo 3. Members raise concerns over the strict implimentation of the use of seat belts and the annual Emmission test for all vehicles by the authorities.

Club invited by the Vintage Car Owners Club to participate in the "Drive for the Children" from Colombo to the Lukshmi Children Home in Katunayake. 6 Beetles participate at this event.

The "Colombo Heritage Rally 2009" Starting from the Mount Lavinia Hotel and ending at the Nondescirpts Crticket Club with fellowship lunch. The Rally Route including many questions of heritage sights within the city limits of Colombo compiled by Mr Ruwan Weerawardana. Joint Winners of the Kleen Park Trophy being awarded to Mr.Ruwan Punchihewa and Mr.Mahesh Mallawaratchi and Runner-up Trophy being awarded to Mr.N K Punchihewa.
